In the last ten years,
the quilting sewing movement has come into its own. There are
now websites, specialty stores and fabric retailers that are
wholly devoted to the popularity of quilting sewing.
Turn-of-the-century patterns have been reconstructed and
duplicated, and Victorian fabrics, buttons and sewing thread
is being made today so that home sewers can make a genuine
garment.
Some of the most popular patterns of quilting sewing machines
are for christening gowns, baby clothes including bonnets and
booties, tea towels and doll clothes. For these one-of-a-kind
gifts, you need special, high-quality fabrics. Some fabrics
now available are high thread count cottons, brushed linens,
laces, French ribbons, and imported silks and satins.
There has even been a new beginning of quilting sewing tools
and notions which our great-grandmothers used to create these
works of art. For example, Mettler and waxed threads are
available, as well as old-fashioned puff irons, loop turners,
pintucking gimps, bodkins, smock and block guides, and press
and sew appliques, all de rigeur in 1915, but not even known
in our day! Quilting sewing machines are also use for
embroidery. Embroidery kits are available on recommended
websites, as well as quilting supplies. |
